fishel rabinowicz was born 1924 in the polish
sosnowiec. he was raised up in traditional jewish community
and completed professional school. the pursuit of jewish during
the second world war dispeled his family. 31 family member
were deported and did not return. fishel rabinowicz was immured
in buchenwald concentration camp. 1947 he came to switzerland.
1949 he began his work as show-case decorator and at the same
time attended the college of arts and crafts in zurich.
since 1955 he lives together with his mrs. henny in locarno.
since his retirement in the year 1989 fishel rabinowicz is
artistically active. his work is shaped by the experience
and experiences of the eastern european jewish world. he works
with a paper-cut technique which has a 200 year tradition
in eastern europe. two pieces of paper form the basis: the
geometrical figures and letter are cut in the upper (white)
page , the lower (black or colored) page brings the colour.
